From the website: MITES is a six-week science and engineering program at MIT for rising high school seniors from across the country.

Students selected for MITES generally have the following qualities:

• Passion for science, technology, engineering and math
  • This can be demonstrated through extracurricular activities, essays, and letters of recommendation
• Strong academic record
